Why Defining Moments?

Why Defining Moments? There are moments in our lives that define us. For some we can pinpoint to a specific moment in our lives where everything changed. That can be a traumatic moment where we feel like we lost something or lost a part of ourselves, or it can be a growth moment where we feel like we gained something or re-connected to a part of ourselves that we lost or didn’t even know was there.

Our defining moments can also be something slower, something that takes time to perculate. A series of hurtful moments that can cause us to slowly, insidiously, lose a part of ourselves. This is so slow sometimes that we don’t realize it is happening, until we wake up one day wondering what happened to me? I don’t feel right, I feel like something is missing, I am not myself. Or, on the flip side it can be a series of healing moments, where slowly over time we notice parts of ourselves coming back, we notice ourselves slowly feeling connected again, till one day we wake up in wonder at finally feeling like ourselves again.

We all have these moments in our life, the moments that define us, that make us who we are. The moments that allow us to either fully express ourselves and live big, or the moments that cause us to hold back and make ourselves live small. The moments that connect us fully to ourselves, or the moments that cause us to disconnect and lose a sense of ourselves.

In Defining Moments I will help you define the moments in your life that have defined you. When we make sense of these moments and connect to them, they don’t have the power to define you anymore. You now get to choose how you want to live. Though counselling we find these moments, process them, and then allow you to decide how to live your life, instead of feeling controlled by the moments that have defined you.

My hope is that through counselling we can create a series of defining moments in our sessions that help you move towards more connection with yourself. My goal in therapy is to help you define the moments that have defined you in a way that allows you to live free and connected again.
